Column #472       September 13, 2024Gas Light

September’s Trump/Harris debate was a bright performance by Kamala. She showed us just how bright a gas light can be. On the other hand, I don’t think Trump was prepared for her barrage of radical, leftist talking points. Kamala artfully delivered several scolding rebukes that were old hand accounts of previously debunked nonsense coupled with lawfare charges. Additionally, Kamala avoided most of the moderators’ direct questions, including the very first question. The end result was that we learned nothing about Kamala as she heaped her version of dirt on Trump.1

When it comes to politics, the majority of Kamala supporters are incapable of critical thinking. For certain, they are incapable of thinking for themselves if they watch ABC News programs hosted by David Muir and/or Linsey Davis. I say this because those two moderators of the debate also participated in the debate. They “fact checked” Trump while allowing Kamala to run free. She outright lied quite often, repeated old Trump statements that were taken out of context, repeated claims about Trump policies that he had already addressed as false, and gave rambling, meaningless answers to direct answers involving policy questions.2

Yet the Democrats, who are used to the ultra liberal line, have been gaslighted for so long they believe the leftist drivel because it’s all they’ve heard year after year. Therefore they actually believe that the open border is Trump’s fault, inflation was Trump’s fault, their lawfare against political opponents is Constitutional justice, it was Trump who kept large segments of the population locked down two years after the 15-day pandemic shutdown to slow the surge, J6 was an insurrection, the 2020 election was totally above board, that Putin wants to take over all of Europe, there can be a two-state solution in Israel, and the Democrats’ appointed presidential candidate (that never received so much as one primary vote) is democracy in action yet Trump is a threat to democracy.

The leftists can’t differentiate positive accomplishments from negative accomplishments. Therefore, they can’t recognize the differences between Trump’s four years in office versus Biden/Harris’ 3.5 years in office. For certain they don’t remember that Trump was effective even though he was constantly under attack by leftists, lawfare, and the MSM during his entire time in office. If they try to do “research” they find that the popular search engines only boost the credibility of the leftists!

During the debate Trump had to defend himself against lies from Harris and false “fact-checks” from the ABC moderators. Muir interrupted Trump, after Trump told about Haitian migrants eating animals in Ohio, saying the city manager has said the allegations are unsubstantiated. It turns out that Trump was mostly correct in that there’s a 911 call about four migrants capturing four geese. Muir also “fact-checked” Trump on violent crime statistics, citing an FBI report. Trump shot back, saying the FBI report deflated the number of violent crimes. They let Kamala get away with the “bloodbath” hoax, “fine people” hoax, about police dying on Jan 6, franking, no U.S. troops in combat zones, not wanting to take away your guns, and Kamala wanting to pay for sex changes.3

Similarly, Davis wrongly “corrected” Trump when he pointed out that Democrats in some states allow abortions after birth. Davis claimed, “There is no state in this country where it is legal to kill a baby after it’s born.” But it’s an absolute fact that in Minnesota, the state led by Kamala’s running mate, Gov. Tim Walz, eliminated a legal obligation for doctors to provide life-saving care to a baby who survives an abortion attempt. Also, contrary to Kamala’s false claim that Trump would ban IVF, Trump has said over and over he supports IVF.

Obviously Kamala (and the moderators?) has no idea what Trump’s many positions are on a whole host of topics. And as for her positions, her team copied Biden’s policies that were on his website and pasted them verbatim on her website. The rest of her positions involve mostly government transfer payments directly to citizens and illegal migrants. For instance she wants to build three million new homes to address a housing shortage—which doesn’t exist since it’s affordable housing that’s the issue. To address affordability she plans on including $25,000 in down payment assistance for first time homeowners. This is a typical unconstitutional government giveaway that will inflate housing prices.4

Trump got flustered several times and per normal repeated himself and by doing so wasted time. He didn’t deliver any knockout punches. Rather he seemed to be rather tired as Kamala dressed him down for this or that grievance. I’m sure that the gaslighted liberals believe Kamala was completely truthful as did the MSM commentators. One CNN “analyst” stated that Kamala told one fib while Trump lied 33 times. Yet in fact, those assessments were nearly 100% in reverse of reality.

After all is said and done, in spite of Kamala’s better acting performance, I don’t think the debate moved the needle. Very few independents swallowed her gaslighting. If the public wanted to learn more about Kamala they were disappointed. All they learned was that she doubled down on stating that "My values have not changed." That was the only statement she made that wasn’t gaslighting the audience.5
