Our Story

What started with cattle, hard work, and a belief in real food became a ranch built around doing things the right way.

Where It Started

Chasing better land and better food.

I started raising cattle in the early 1970s in Oregon, eventually making my way through Nevada and landing in Texas in 1990.

Long before grass-fed became popular, I was already searching for better breeding, better farming practices, and a healthier way to raise animals.

In 1999, after attending a grass-fed beef conference in Dallas, everything clicked. We had already been raising grass-fed cattle for years. Now it was time to bring that food directly to people.

A freezer, a phone, and a few orders.

At the beginning, it was just my wife and me, a chest freezer, and customers who had to call directly to place an order.

The first website launched in 2000. Orders were slow at first, but over time people started finding us. We learned shipping, sourcing, processing, and customer service one step at a time.

Built the Hard Way

Every challenge forced us to get better.

Nothing about building this was easy. Processing was difficult. Shipping frozen meat nationwide was difficult. Finding reliable sourcing and maintaining quality standards was difficult.

But every obstacle shaped the business into what it became.

Instead of selling generic boxes, we built the store more like a real market where customers could choose exactly what worked best for their families.

The People Behind It

This was never built alone.

Over the years, Slankers Ranch grew through relationships with ranchers, processors, suppliers, crew members, and customers who believed in the same values we did.

Good people made the hard parts possible. They helped us keep quality high, solve problems, and continue growing without compromising how the food was raised.

The Shift

Somewhere along the way, food got complicated.

Ingredient labels became harder to recognize. Products became more processed. Convenience started replacing nutrition.

That disconnect is what keeps bringing people back to something simple.
