Raw Pet Food Thawing and Serving Guide

Raw pet food is not a cooked recipe. This guide is meant to help with safe thawing, handling, serving, and cleanup for frozen pet grinds, organs, bones, dog treats, and whole-prey items.

Supplies

  • Frozen raw pet food, dog bones, treats, or whole-prey items
  • Sealed thawing container
  • Dedicated pet food bowl or mat
  • Clean utensils
  • Refrigerator space on the bottom shelf
  • Soap and hot water
  • Pet-safe storage containers

Steps

  1. Thaw only what you need in a sealed container on the bottom shelf of the refrigerator.
  2. Keep raw pet food separate from people food and ready-to-eat foods.
  3. Serve in a clean bowl or on a washable mat.
  4. Return unused thawed food to the refrigerator promptly and use it within a short window.
  5. Wash hands, bowls, utensils, counters, and mats with hot soapy water after handling.
