What Is Motivating You?

Fork in the Road

You know the story. From the dawn of time mankind has been motivated by two basic sides. They are to follow God's law or follow Satan's pleasures. The stage was set in the Garden of Eden. There was a command to not eat the fruit of a particular tree. Satan thought it was a silly rule since the fruit tasted so good. The command was ignored and that resulted in both Adam and Eve being banished from the Garden.

People have always been free to choose the paths they take. Often, what they don't realize is that every fork in the road is an investment in their future. So, what are you investing in?

Is your focus on God, love, family, health, well-being, education, a savings plan, and long-term sustainability? These days there are many more options. Careers, travel, nightlife, eating out, shopping, watching TV, social media, amusement parks, Door Dash, and attending sporting events. We can add to that the innumerable ways to deploy one's savings. There's the stock, bond, and option markets, crypto, gold, silver, collectibles, casinos, casino apps, lotteries, body art, cosmetic surgery, jewelry, shoes, and the list goes on.

Are you following the latest fads such as chasing AI stocks, buying gold, and buying crypto? Do you ever wonder if you might be late to the table regarding those investments? Or are you going where nobody is going such as into six-month Treasury Bills and having them roll over automatically every six months? Six-month T-bills yield about 4.2% annually and offer no risk since they are the same as cash.

You may be asking yourself what does all this have to do with me and Grass-Fed and Omega-3 meats? Well, now we are getting to the point of this essay.

Most of us have limited resources. That means rising prices for food, automobiles, fuel, electricity, education, and healthcare become increasingly brutal. The upward pressure on prices (averaging +3.6% annually the past five months) has been caused by the Iran war AND soaring government debt and an accommodating Fed. So if you always do what you've always done the financial pinch will always get worse. Gambling on lady luck is not the best fork in the road for solving situations that are not under your control. Therefore, practical budgeting may be the best option.

A budget starts with prioritizing our goals. If we use the long list of options above for spending money, hopefully you can see many choices that are not suitable for inclusion. So what are your top priorities?

Sustainable practices can start with a family focusing on Christian principles. That's a loving home where health, education, support, and a homey environment exist. Some options that represent waste such as eating out, getting tattoos, needless trips in the car, buying snacks, soft drinks, and gambling are eliminated.

The question is, when a dollar is spent is it creating a more sustainable life. For example preparing meals at home is less expensive than going out to eat. Growing your own vegetables from seed is less expensive than buying the plants. A big one is buying a car. Buying low mileage, used cars is usually the best value. Is the car economical and comfortable, does the brand have a good repair record, is it big enough for the family, and does it have all the safety features that provide driver assistance?

Now other than buying used, buying food is a similar process. Few people research their food. Researching the nutrients and their impact on health is important information. Buying cheap and convenient foods associated with causing chronic diseases over time are incredibly expensive no matter how you try to rationalize that practice. It's even more ridiculous when the cost to prepare nutritionally deficit food is the same as preparing actually healthy foods.

Proper maintenance of the body is not unlike the maintenance of your car. Don't change the oil because it cost too much and the blown engine will change your mind. Over look changing the transmission oil every 100,000 miles and the issues that arise are humbling. Running around on bald tires can result in a wreck. No money saved there.

Therefore, the point is that purchasing only real foods such as Grass-Fed and Omega-3 Meats may be the least expensive food you can purchase to lower long-term costs. The savings are in better health and well-being, fewer doctor visits, and less reliance on drugs and operations at some future date. Do the math. Pound for pound, in terms of nutrient diversity and density, Grass-Fed and Omega-3 Meats are the number one best buy.

Seeking the fork in the road that offers real value over time always trumps a gamble. That's why everyone must very carefully evaluate their forks in the road.
