Can Food Cure What Ails You?

Certain foods can help improve health and manage illnesses by providing essential nutrients that support the body and mind. A growing number of people are adopting a "food as medicine" approach, recognizing that a nutritious diet can prevent and even reverse some health conditions.
I've spoken with many elderly customers and they have similar stories which fit in several different categories.
- They grew up focused on the importance of proper nutrition.
- They didn't pay attention to nutrition until they were in their thirties.
- They became aware of nutrition's importance after they could join the AARP.
The human body is like a machine with many moving parts. As people age, depending on their sex and activities there is an accumulation of bruises, broken bones, sicknesses, sprains, births, mental stresses, and so forth. Levels of social involvement, exercise, and physical checkups also play a role in health outcomes. There's another important factor many seem to ignore. That's the chronic diseases of our ancestors.
Quite often, from our genetics we inherit strengths and weaknesses. This is where food comes into play big time. A constant diet of junk food that's loaded with sugar, salt, vegetable fats, and almost always low in dietary fiber, protein, and micronutrients such as Omega-3, vitamins, and minerals is destructive. This diet works on the weakest inherited genetics that bring on the chronic diseases such as Allergies, Asthma, Atrial Fibrillation, Amnesia, Anemia, Arthritis, Autoimmune Disorders, Cancer, Cerebral Palsy, Crohn's, Celiac Disease, Coronary Heart Disease, Cystic Fibrosis, Dyslexia, Eczema, Fibromyalgia, Gynecological Problems, Heart Failure, Lupus, Muscular Dystrophy, Obesity, Sleep Apnea, Osteoporosis, Personality, Phobias, Palsy, Stroke, for the short list.
This is where time comes into play. The earlier a person starts and maintains a highly nutritious diet with regular checkups, the better their body does in staving off heritable body failures. It's like maintaining an airplane. The requirements for annual maintenance catches problems before they become obvious. A plane kept in a hanger has fewer issues than those left outside in the elements. Proper oil changes, greased fittings, compression checks, properly tightened nuts and bolts, and checks for stress factors and frayed wires keep disaster at bay.
There is good news. For those who come to nutrition later in life, it's amazing how the body strives to restore health, energy, and reduce pain. Of course, food alone won't turn around advanced chronic diseases or cure decades of physical abuse. But there are many cases where some diseases are suppressed and even eliminated! Life is unquestionably improved.
The good diet starts with the proper food pyramid with plenty of Omega-3 protein (beef, chicken, pork, lamb, goat, seafood, etc.) and vegetables with some fruit--very little grain, sugar, salt, and no vegetable oils. Yes, the Hunter Gatherer Food Pyramid worked millions of years ago and it still does.
Man is the only animal that changes its diet depending on its philosophy of what is considered healthy grub. All other critters eat what their ancestors did many thousands of years ago. Maybe the animals are onto something.
