For millions of years man ate mostly meat.  Okay, okay, you've heard differently.   But I beg to differ, and most anthropologists agree, it was meat that played the largest dietary role in making humans the rulers of the planet!  But it was not just meat nor was it just any kind of meat.  The meat had to be sourced to the green leaf!

For all of time the green leaf was the foundation food for all animal life.  I have two Web pages that explain why in greater depth.  They are It All Began in the Sea . . . and  Man Is an Extension of the Leafy, Green Plant .  Those essays explain in some detail why it is that all animals must source their nutrient needs to a green leaf.  Basically, the green leaf was the first sustainable life form.  And the animals that followed ate only two things:  The green leaf and/or another animal.  Consequently, every animal on Earth to this very day must source its nutrient profile to a green leaf.  They either do it directly or through another animal or both.

Our modern foods, and I have another essay titled Big Nutritional Changes in Recent History, are no longer based on the green leaf.  The alterations of our foods over the past 10,000 years is so drastic it exceeds the imaginations of most folks.  Yet in spite of this incredibly huge nutrient change and the resulting epidemic of chronic diseases (body failures) the masses contend with, few recognize the source of the problem.  The problem is what I call The Atomic Bomb of the American Food System.  Right, I am not talking about a firecracker, I am talking about a cataclysmic thing, and "the thing" is considered food by all -- yet it is literally killing everyone who eats it!

If you are thinking about a "high protein diet" I am sure you've heard about the Omega-3 Fatty Acid.  It's one of the essential fatty acids and our nation's food system is deficient in this important family of fatty acids.  If you are the curious sort, you have to wonder why it is then that our modern foods can be deficient in Omega-3 fatty acids yet all animal bodies require it for optimal function.  Just how could that be?

For millions of years man ate like all other critters.  He ate other animals and green leafy stuff just like all other animals which also ate other animals and/or green leafy stuff.  Consequently every animal (including those in the sea) had nutrient profiles that were sourced to the Earth's only sustainable life form:  The green leaf.  And low and behold, the green leaf is a source of Omega-3 Fatty Acids.  In addition, the green leaf is the primary source for nearly all other nutrients (chemicals) animal bodies use to build powerful bodies with strong immune systems.

Now get this, when it comes to Omega-3 Fatty Acids and other essential fatty acids that are in animal bodies, their quantity in any one food source, whether high protein or lettuce leaves, is not important.  What is critically important though is the actual balance of the various essential fats.  When the balance that existed for all of time between the essential Omega-6 and Omega-3 fats in the foods ingested are skewed out of line by the modern concocted foods most folks eat today, bodies FAIL in time!  And what must the balance be?  Why of course, it must be the same balance found in the majority of green leafy plants.  (Scientists have determined that the balance is approximately one to one by weight of the Omega-6 to the Omega-3 Fatty Acids.)

So, when you think about high protein diets, weight losing diets, body healing diets, strength building diets, diets for enhancing the immune system, etc. you must focus on foods that source to the green leafy plant.  Now this is where is gets to be interesting.  Grain is one of mankind's concocted foods.  I say this because grain as a food came about only when man invented grain farming.  In addition to having a significantly different chemical composition compared with a green leaf, all grains have highly skewed fat profiles compared to green leaves.  Their essential Omega-6 to Omega-3 fatty acid ratios range from 10 to one to 30 to one.  (Chronic diseases are detectible in laboratory experiments with mice when the ratio exceeds four to one!)  Now maybe you can understand why any animal that eats grain will get a skewed fat profile that is high in Omega-6 Fatty Acids and low in Omega-3 Fatty Acids.  Interestingly, most nutritionists recognize the consequences of eating grain-based foods every time they say Americans have an Omega-3 Fatty Acid deficiency.  But instead of telling them to stop eating grain, they tell people to take supplements.

The upshot of all this is if you eat a high protein diet you must ask, "What did the animal eat?"  If the animal was fed grain, then it will have a skewed fat profile and therefore IT IS NOT FIT TO EAT.  That is why some of the worst meats you can eat are chicken and turkey!  Those critters are usually fed grain from conception to harvest!  And nearly the same goes for beef, bison, pork, goat, lamb, and nearly all other domestically raised critters.  If they are grain-fed, especially at finish just prior to harvest, then a high protein diet of those meats will be very destructive to the prospects for your long-term health.

This is why Slanker Grass-Fed Meat is here.  We specialize in meats you can eat.  We "preach" The Real Diet of Man.  If you are interested in eating for your health, please visit our MEAT STORE HOME PAGE for your meat needs.  And if you want more information in order to see whether or not what I have presented here on this page is credible or not, I invite you to read my Web site and spend time on the many links found on my Science Links page
